Well I have had my first painting and working on it occasionally for about a month. I am impressed as to how quickly and easily it was done. It looks like I did a good job on it. I did cheat some on the real small spots and painted over a couple with the wrong color. But it looks good, and passed time . This one is the beginners now I will start on an intermediate. Lastly for me, it's something to do, not a profession.
This one was more difficult because I ordered 48 paints. However I think all the extra colors gave it depth. Now my friends want to do one. I would highly recommend getting the canvas already stretched and on frame

I love this painting and I can’t ever have the original so now I have my own copy. I loved working on this.
I primarily use paint by numbers to strengthen eye-hand coordination since I’m a senior and know that such activities are very useful in keeping your brain active. Plus you get a nice piece of art in the process. I’ve been painting freehand since I was young so am very familiar with painting techniques, but paint by number requires exact attention to detail and therefore is really good for maintaining brain acuity. I always wanted a print of “Girl with a Pearl Earring”. Now I have a painting of it which I did. These paintings give me a real sense of accomplishment. Enjoy them especially during the winter when I’m inside much of the time.

Not at all! Our kits are designed for both beginners and experienced artists. The numbered guide makes it easy to follow along, and many users find the process meditative and relaxing. Simply match the numbers on the canvas with the numbers on the paint and start creating!
Some colors, mostly yellows, whites, light pinks and pale blues, are semi-transparent, so the printed numbers and lines can show through after one coat. That is normal. Let the first coat dry, then add a second one. Painting the light areas before the dark ones next to them also helps, and avoid adding water, which makes the paint thinner.
If the paint is still wet, wipe it off with a damp cotton swab. If it has dried, simply paint over it with the right color once it is completely dry. Covering a dark color with a light one may need two or three thin coats. Acrylic paint is very forgiving, so a small slip is easy to hide.
Close each pot tightly after use, since acrylic paint dries quickly when left open. If a color has become thick, add one or two drops of water and stir. If it has dried out completely, contact us with the color number: within 60 days of delivery we send replacement paints for free.
It depends on the kit level, the size and your own pace. As a guide, Beginner kits take about a week of relaxed painting, Intermediate kits a little more than a week, and Advanced kits two weeks or more. A larger size or Premium detail adds time. It's not a race, so enjoy the process.
A pre-stretched kit is ready to hang once the paint is dry, with a hanging kit included. A rolled canvas can go on our DIY frame or to a local framer. Our canvases are made in metric sizes (40x50 cm is slightly smaller than 16x20"), so measure the painted area before buying a frame.

Nobody knows. Johannes Vermeer painted her in Delft around 1665, and the picture is not a commissioned portrait but a tronie, a Dutch study of a face, often in exotic dress. Her blue and yellow turban and the glance over her shoulder have made her one of the most famous faces in art.
The painting hangs in the Mauritshuis in The Hague. Tracy Chevalier's 1999 novel imagined a story for her, and the 2003 film starring Scarlett Johansson made her face known to millions who had never been to the museum. She is often called the Mona Lisa of the North.
Vermeer spent his whole life in Delft, worked slowly, and left only around 35 paintings that are accepted as his. Most show quiet interiors with women reading, writing or pouring milk by a window. He died in 1675, deep in debt, and was largely forgotten until critics rediscovered him in the 19th century.
Some scholars believe he used a camera obscura to study light, though he left no notes about how he worked.
The turban gets its deep blue from ultramarine, a costly pigment made from ground lapis lazuli. The pearl itself is only a few strokes: one bright highlight at the top and a soft reflection of her white collar below. Her parted lips and wide eyes make it feel like a moment caught in passing.
A 2018 study by the Mauritshuis found that the plain dark background was once a green curtain, which has faded over the centuries.
The face and the pearl are where Vermeer's soft light matters most. Paint the dark background first, then the turban, then the face from shadow to highlight, and add the bright spot on the pearl last. Keep the edges between neighboring skin tones soft, since Vermeer's faces have almost no hard lines.
