Beginner Tips for Your First Diamond Painting

Work in small patches

Peel back only a few inches of film at a time so the glue stays sticky and clean.

One color at a time

Fill every square of one symbol in a patch, then switch. It is faster and you lose fewer drills.

Refresh the wax

When the pen stops picking up drills, press it into the wax again. A little goes a long way.

Press when done

Lay a clean book or roller over the finished canvas and press gently so every drill sits flat.

Ready for a Full-Size Kit?

Once you have a mini or two finished, a beginner-rated full-size design is the natural next step. Good first picks are Monument Valley, Summer Bouquet, Van Gogh's Sunflowers and Grey Heron.

Why Beginners Start With a Mini Diamond Painting

A finish you can see

The biggest reason first projects get left in a drawer is size. A mini kit gets you to the end fast, so the first diamond painting you make is one you actually finish and enjoy.

Learn the technique

You pick up every step on a small canvas: reading the symbol chart, pouring drills into the tray, using the wax and pressing the finished canvas. Those habits carry straight into bigger kits.
