Quiet is the main thing in Edvard Munch's Field in Snow, painted in 1907. A snow-covered field, open and still, seen through Munch's own eye for nature.

Placing the diamonds here feels meditative, row after row of winter calm. This Munch diamond painting looks right on a bedroom wall from December through March, or anywhere you want the room to feel slower.

Edvard Munch and the Winter Landscape

Snow is a recurring subject for Munch. Growing up in Norway, he knew long winters well, and in his landscapes the snow becomes a space for quiet thought instead of a mere backdrop. Here an open field lies under a soft white blanket, and the emptiness itself becomes the subject.

Munch Beyond The Scream

Born in 1863, Munch is best known for The Scream and his dark studies of love, illness and loss. Landscapes were an important part of his work too, and they grew more frequent later in life.

In 1916 he bought Ekely, a property just outside Oslo, where he lived until his death in 1944. He liked to work outdoors, and he was known for leaving canvases out in the weather, letting snow and rain mark the paint.

Diamond Painting Snow Without Getting Lost

Large areas of white and pale blue are where diamond painting can feel repetitive, and also where it gets most relaxing. Those pale shades can look alike, so check symbols carefully and work in small squares, finishing one before starting the next. Good daylight helps you spot gaps before you frame the canvas.

Snow in Munch is never pure white. Look for the faint blues, lilacs and grays in the shadows; once they are placed, the field gains its shape and depth.

Munch painted many winter scenes, and they pair well with other quiet landscapes. Discover more famous paintings from Munch and other masters. A winter scene like this suits a reading corner or a mountain cabin.
