Not at all! Our kits are designed for both beginners and experienced artists. The numbered guide makes it easy to follow along, and many users find the process meditative and relaxing. Simply match the numbers on the canvas with the numbers on the paint and start creating!
Some colors, mostly yellows, whites, light pinks and pale blues, are semi-transparent, so the printed numbers and lines can show through after one coat. That is normal. Let the first coat dry, then add a second one. Painting the light areas before the dark ones next to them also helps, and avoid adding water, which makes the paint thinner.
If the paint is still wet, wipe it off with a damp cotton swab. If it has dried, simply paint over it with the right color once it is completely dry. Covering a dark color with a light one may need two or three thin coats. Acrylic paint is very forgiving, so a small slip is easy to hide.
Close each pot tightly after use, since acrylic paint dries quickly when left open. If a color has become thick, add one or two drops of water and stir. If it has dried out completely, contact us with the color number: within 60 days of delivery we send replacement paints for free.
It depends on the kit level, the size and your own pace. As a guide, Beginner kits take about a week of relaxed painting, Intermediate kits a little more than a week, and Advanced kits two weeks or more. A larger size or Premium detail adds time. It's not a race, so enjoy the process.
A pre-stretched kit is ready to hang once the paint is dry, with a hanging kit included. A rolled canvas can go on our DIY frame or to a local framer. Our canvases are made in metric sizes (40x50 cm is slightly smaller than 16x20"), so measure the painted area before buying a frame.

Claude Monet settled in Giverny in 1883 and a decade later began digging a pond on land across the road from his house. He planted it with water lilies, added a Japanese style footbridge, and spent the last three decades of his life painting it, producing around 250 water lily canvases in all.
The pond was a garden built to be painted. Monet had gardeners tend the water garden, keeping the lilies tidy and the surface clear, so the water would hold clean reflections of the sky and the willows on the bank.
Because the pond never looked the same twice. Clouds, wind, the season and the hour all changed the colors on the water, and Monet wanted to catch each version. Late in life his eyesight clouded with cataracts, and the colors in his later lily paintings grew warmer and looser.
After World War I he offered a set of huge water lily panels to France. They were installed in two oval rooms at the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris, which opened to the public in 1927, a few months after his death.
In Pond with Water Lilies the subject is really the surface of the water, where floating pads, sky reflections and shadow all sit on one plane. Monet often cropped out the shoreline and the horizon, so the eye drifts across the canvas the way light drifts across the pond.
Notice that the lily pads shrink as they recede. That simple change in size is almost the only clue to depth, and it is what makes a flat surface feel like open water.
This is an advanced kit, and the challenge is the water. Work the darker reflection areas first, then the mid tones, and save the lilies and their pale highlights for the end so they read as floating on top.
The Claude Monet collection holds more of his Giverny studies, each catching the pond in a different light. The finished piece sits well in a bedroom or living room, anywhere a quiet view of water helps the room feel calmer.
