Frequently Asked Questions

Tom Thomson (1877–1917) was one of Canada's most influential landscape painters, celebrated for his vivid, expressive scenes of the northern Ontario wilderness, especially Algonquin Park. His bold color and energetic brushwork helped inspire the famous Group of Seven. His career was brief, ending with his mysterious death at 39, but his northland landscapes remain iconic.

You'll find two of Thomson's nature scenes as paint by numbers kits, In The Northland and The Birch Grove, plus In The Northland as an extra-large diamond painting. All capture the rich color and wild beauty of the Canadian outdoors.

These lean toward experienced painters, rated Intermediate and Advanced. Thomson's loose, colorful style means lots of distinct color areas to capture his energy, so they reward patience. If you're newer to paint by numbers, you can still enjoy one as a slower project, or start with an easier kit first.

With paint by numbers you fill numbered areas using the included acrylic paints. With diamond painting you place sparkling resin "diamonds" onto a coded canvas for a shimmering, mosaic finish. The diamond version of In The Northland comes in an extra-large size, making it a real statement piece.
