I love to paint, but have never done a portrait before. Since my learning was from paint by numbers, I thought I’d give this a shot. It was great seeing how to do shadows, highlights, and folds/bends of the skin.
The only downside was that the canvas was not true to its size. I ordered a 16x20, pre-stretched on frame, and it was 15 7/8 x 18.75. It would have cost an additional $70 to get it framed because it was off. Luckily, the framing store took the canvas off the frame and put it on a board for me. I painted beyond the boarder by .25-.5 inches so they can frame it at the actual size I ordered.
Love the product! But, save yourself from spending the extra money and get the canvas only and find a framing store to put it in a board for you. I’m not sure if one was to order the image on a canvas board if the board would be the true size or not.
It took longer than expected, but an excellent finished product. There were 30 paints and I bought the framed canvas. I had more than enough paint. The numbers were very clear to see, but some of the lines were fainter, and I had to guess. I’ve bought other paint by number kits, and these were one of the best. I’m already working on another painting.
I was very happy with how this kit turned out. I selected the 48 color option. There was one color where two paint pods were provided. There were five colors (10, 14,20, 31,35) where I ran out of paint and had to subsitute a similar color. I thought the end product turned out well but it's annoying to pay for the upgraded paints and not have enough of them. That said, I was still very happy with the end product.
Nice earthy colors!This was 48 colors on a pre-stretched canvas. Added more details to make it look closer to the original painting. Gave to my son-in-law for his future man cave. Looks great!

I enjoyed working on this painting. One problem…Why are there more ears than there should be though? I would appreciate accuracy in a picture that takes so long to accomplish. Thank you!
"The Storming Buffalo" was born out of a Facebook picture that was repeated 3 years later.
A farmer out of one of the provinces in South Africa wanted to hear if I can do a painting of a buffalo for him.
I asked Canvas By Numbers to convert a small picture into an A0 size. This presented some import issues at the borders of my country. We settled for the paint sets and a PDF version of the final product.
I printed it in SA and the framer pasted it on a backing board. This worked much easier than a block canvas.
After painting it, my "team" helped me get it to and from the framer, wrap it especially for a 900 kilometer road to its owner and then it was transported to the owner.
The video shows the surprise delivery and the farmer and his wife's absolute joy in receiving his requested painting.
They comment about having no words, wanting to cry and the character of the buffalo.
Will I do this kind of project along with CBN again? FOR SURE!!!
It was worth every challenge, every gritting of teeth, shout of joy and every tear and celebration...
This was a very challenging work but it was so rewarding. It took time but I really learned about how the hair was painted.
This requires some patience and that is what made the effort so enjoyable.
My partner and I had our boy Bruce for 11.5 years. When we had to put him down my Mom bought us a gift card for Canvas to pick out a photo and get a painting. I’m so glad that my Mom did. It’s pretty detailed and looks very realistic, and it was an honor to paint. We miss Bruce every day, and this is a beautiful memory to see every day. Thank you Canvas by numbers.
I loved making it. It’s a mindless, almost mesmerizing activity that is perfect to work on with a podcast or show on in the background. I’m happy with how my painting turned out and will definitely frame and hang it.
This painting is beautiful but it was very challenging. Some of the numbers were so tiny it was hard to read them. Also, one of the paint pots for the sky was almost dry. It was annoying to keep having to add water to make it liquid enough to paint. Other than that I loved doing the project.
I had to get out the magnifiers for this one, but I really love the way it turned out. I did the 48 color version, so there were lots of little tiny dabs of color. I love how bright and colorful this one is. Paint quality was great, but it came in those horrible white-lidded containers. They are really hard to open and make my work area so sloppy because I get my fingers in the paint in the lids all the time.
This painting kit turned out very similar to the original picture. The colors were beautiful and fun to use! I've completed 3 more projects from canvas by numbers already!
It was such great joy painting her and I love the result. Canvas by Numbers offers an amazing quality and the customer service is just brilliant. I like blending the colours, which worked pretty well here. The shadows come out slightly more greenish than in the original, that's true - just added a little more yellow to highlight the facets of the shadows.
The paints that came with canvas had several that were dried out, a replacement kit was ordered, received without any problems and the painting was very enjoyable to do. Will do another. Thanks
I was worried at first thinking it would just look like a bunch of glob but it all came together and looked just like the picture! Going to get another one
The painting turned out well; I was really pleased. The title of the painting is perfect as there was a lot of shades of red. You wouldn't want to mess with this creature that is for sure. It looks fantastic hanging on my wall. Recommend for all.
Mostly great. The only pick I had was some of the details were a bit blocky, especially underneath the bench. There were also quite a few spaces without numbers but overall turned out great regardless
This was an immersive and fun project; I was proud to gift it as a housewarming present and excited to hear the reaction when it was received. Although I was skeptical at first that I would have enough paint in those tiny containers, clearly it was more than enough and I had some left over in each. Brushes were well designed to paint even the most tiny details. It was terrific to see the photo emerge as a painting.
I completed this exact painting as a gift to my mother when I graduated from college. Sadly, it was lost when they're house burned down in Altadena last year. So I repainted the painting as a replacement and gift for her birthday. She loves it and I'm so thankful for this service.
