James Meger (1942 to 2011) was a celebrated American wildlife artist from Minnesota, known for his richly detailed paintings of ducks, pheasants, eagles, and rural Americana. A multiple winner of state duck stamp and Pheasants Forever competitions, he raised millions for wildlife conservation through his art. He was nicknamed the artist who paints "more than meets the eye," for the hidden images he often tucked into his scenes.

This collection features two of Meger's wildlife scenes as paint by numbers kits: Heritage Eagle, a majestic American bald eagle, and Outback Mallards, a lively duck scene. Both capture his love of nature and the great outdoors in fine detail.

Both are rated Intermediate. Meger's realistic wildlife style includes detailed feathers, water, and natural settings, so they suit painters with a little experience. A patient beginner can still take one on as a rewarding step up.

They make a wonderful gift for nature lovers, hunters, birdwatchers, and anyone who appreciates wildlife art. A finished Meger scene brings a touch of the outdoors to a cabin, study, or living room, and its realistic detail makes it a real talking point.

James Meger Paint by Numbers: Wildlife in Fine Detail

James Meger is an American wildlife artist whose work celebrates birds and the outdoors with a realist's eye for feathers, water and weather. This small collection brings two of his scenes to canvas as James Meger paint by numbers kits: a proud bald eagle and a lively group of mallards. Both are rated intermediate and make a great step up after your first kit.

The Two James Meger Paint by Numbers Kits

Heritage Eagle

A bald eagle, the national bird of the United States, painted in close-up with crisp white head feathers and a sharp, steady gaze. A proud piece for a study, den or cabin.

Outback Mallards

Mallard ducks on the water in warm fall tones. A calm, classic sporting scene with plenty of natural texture in the feathers, reeds and ripples.

Tips for Painting Wildlife by Numbers

Feathers

Work from the darkest feathers to the lightest. Let each section dry so the edges stay crisp and the layers read clearly.

Water

Reflections are made of many small shapes in close shades. Take them slowly and the surface will shimmer when you step back.

Eyes last

Leave the eyes and the bright highlights for the very end. A fine brush makes the finishing touches easier.
